The Legacy of War

John Rodsted’s photography exhibition and presentation ‘The Legacy of War’ at the University of Sydney on 17 April examined the suffering and poverty caused by antipersonnel landmines and cluster bombs.

One of John Rodsted’s images focuses on a man tying little metal sinkers to the end of a fishing net. The photo has greater impact after Rodsted points out that the sinkers are metal casings from bomblets the man has collected from his village.

There could be up to 30,000 bomblets in just one village in Laos, remnants from the 260 million cluster bombs dropped on the country during the Vietnam War the photographer tells a small audience at his exhibition in the Posters of Peace Room at the University of Sydney.
